Grocery Shopping In Finland.

Here are Stores in Finland where you can buy the items you need, and into categories to help you know which stores best suit your shopping needs at that particular moment in time…

Shopping is part of living and existing. It even gets better when you know the right places to shop for your needs, and also how you can actually do this without breaking the bank. I have received messages from incoming students and foreigners asking about shopping in Finland. So in this post, I will be listing the Shops in Finland where you can buy the items you need; for example, Food items, Furniture, House hold items, Electrical appliances, and of course Clothes. 

First let me point out that in Finland you will find a lot of Stores, and since Finland is part of the European Union, you will also find some stores which are part of a larger popular chain present in other European countries. The listing of the stores below does not in any way indicate hierarchy or level of importance. All stores in Finland are well recognized and legal.

For the purpose of streamlining this post to keep it short and precise, I will be focusing on the more readily available and visibly common stores you can easily find in Finland. The purpose of breaking them into categories is to enable you know what stores best suit your shopping needs at a particular point in time. So let’s get right into it below;

FOOD AND HOUSE HOLD ITEMS

There are a lot Grocery stores in Finland where you can buy food items, both raw or ready for consumption. You will also find small house hold items ranging from detergents, bed linings and blankets, kids items including toys, as well as items for almost every part of the home. Although these stores are generally referred to as Food stores (Roukakauppa in Finnish), you can also find other items like shoes, clothes, cosmetics, electronic gadgets, DVDs, and so on. Actually the list is endless. These are easily found in the bigger departmental stores.

Below is a list of some of the grocery stores in Finland:

  1. The K Group: These include K-Citymarket, K-Supermarket, and K-Market. These K stores are a leading Finnish brand in this industry. They all belong to the Kesko Oyj which is the parent company. They are all grocery stores where you can buy all of the items I mentioned above, and even much more.

The K-Citymarket and the K-Supermarkets are much bigger and has a lot more options than the smaller K-Markets. The K-Markets are more in number as you are sure of finding a lot of those stores in the same city.

2. The S Group: These include Prisma, S-Market, and Sale. The S Group is also a leading Finnish brand run under cooperatives. Prisma is the largest of all while S-Market and Sale are more in number and available in many locations within a city. Alepa Grocery chain in Helsinki also belong to S Group.

  1. Lidl: This is a grocery store popular in Europe and the United States. It is owned by the German company Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG. We have many Lidl stores in Finland run by Lidl Suomi Ky. Lidl is specially known for it’s discounted prices.

There are also other departmental stores in Finland such as Halpa halli, Tokmanni, Stockmann, and Pick N Pay.

HOUSEHOLD ITEMS GENERALLY

With regards to house hold items generally, apart from some of the larger supermarkets mentioned above, there are shops in Finland where you can buy some household items like Kodin terra, Sokos, K-rauta, Clas Ohlson, and so on.

FURNITURE

As for furniture, some of the common or popular stores where you can buy furniture in Finland are Jysk, Masku, IKEA, Sotka, Asku, and so on.

ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

For electrical appliances, below are some of the stores which are specifically dedicated to selling electrical appliances and gadgets;

  1. Gigantti: Gigantti store is a retailer of consumer electronics in Finland, originally from Norway. They sell a lot of electronics ranging from televisions, washing machine and dryers, dishwashers, grills, computers and laptops, phones, headsets, games, digital boxes, etc. The list is endless.
  2. Power: Power store is also a home appliances retailer part of the Power International AS Group from Norway. Just like in Gigantti, you will find a lot of electronics in Power. 

There are a couple of other electronic stores in Finland and you will find several others online as well like Verkkokauppa and Cdon.
